But Yoo Hoi-jun, a professor at South Korea\u2019s &nbsp;KAIST university who spearheaded the project, says it comes with a special chip that &nbsp;expands the pool of objects the device can properly recognize without relying on barcodes or other markers.<\/p>\n<p>The processor \u201cduplicates the ability of the human brain to process visual data,\u201d KAIST said. But the K-Glass, as seen in the photo, is a lot bulkier than Google Glass which is a small-sized rectangular computer attached to the frame of spectacles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have yet to decide on a specific target application, which will be needed in commercializing the product,\u201d Yoo said.<\/p>\n<p>K-Glass has a long way to go until commercialization but the project comes at an opportune time.<\/p>\n<p>The &nbsp;South Korean government, which has been pushing for a more \u201ccreative\u201d economy, recently named wearables as a new growth engine, saying that the segment will have a significant impact on the country\u2019s future economic status.<\/p>\n<p>This week, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/news\/articles\/SB10001424127887323393804578554681586293800\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u><font color=\"#0066cc\">the Ministry of Trade, Industry &amp; Energy initiated<\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/a> what it calls a \u201cwearable smart device\u201d forum consisting of officials from both the public and the private sectors including executives from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.<\/p>\n<p>KAIST\u2019s Yoo is also taking part as a committee member for the forum which is expected to take place once a month to share ideas over how to build the wearables industry in South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWearable devices today come with limited functions like checking a user\u2019s health condition or linking information through smartphones, checking emails and schedules,\u201d the ministry said in a statement. \u201cBut in the future, &nbsp;the application is expected to expand to cover products used in everyday life including outfits and tools used under high-risk situations like fire-fighting and national defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yoo says he and his team are open to selling the glass device to<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/digits\/2013\/10\/24\/patent-filing-shows-samsung-preps-electronic-eyewear\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u><font color=\"#0066cc\"> big companies like Samsung<\/font><\/u><\/strong><\/a> and Google.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>741<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-107355","press-post","type-press-post","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/ee.presscat.kr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/press-post\/107355","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/ee.presscat.kr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/press-post"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/ee.presscat.kr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/press-post"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/ee.presscat.kr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=107355"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
