Research Goals and Vision

The human-computer interaction (HCI) research at the KAIST School of Electrical Engineering aims to enhance user experience and facilitate seamless interaction between humans and machines. This research develops various interaction technologies and provides innovative applications through these advancements. The department’s innovative research in human-robot interaction, virtual and augmented reality, wearable interaction, digital health, social computing, usable security, and human-AI interaction is applied across various industries.

Human-Robot Interaction

  • Collaborative Robots : Developing systems that enable humans and robots to work together collaboratively. Research focuses on motion planning, control, and safe interaction.
  • Emotion Recognition : Creating technology that allows robots to recognize and appropriately respond to human emotions.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

  • VR/AR System Development : Designing and implementing immersive virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems. Applications include education, entertainment, and healthcare.
  • Enhancing User Experience : Researching interfaces and interaction methods to optimize user experience in VR/AR environments.
