On March 4th, the Ministry of Science and ICT selected KAIST, Korea University, and Sungkyunkwan University for the support project involving a 2019 AI graduate school.
The integrator, Chong Song, who is a Chair Professor, emphasized a plan systematizing a department, a graduate school, and a laboratory to develop the AI graduate school into an AI college. Also, he mentioned that by increasing the number of full-time professors to 30 until 2023, KAIST will be the best graduate school in the field of AI.
Judging that the procuration of talent is crucial for the fourth industrial revolution, twelve distinguished universities applied to this AI graduate school support project. However, KAIST came through the competition as one of the top 25%, and was one of the only three institutions to get the nine billion won funding for five years, which could maximally be stretched to 19 billion won for ten years.
It is expected that new AI departments will be founded beginning during the fall semester of 2019. Congratulations on the success in attracting a 2019 AI graduate school!
